Epilepsy Q & A

Still many cases do not have a clear etiology. Part of the evaluation process includes looking for a cause.

About one in 26 people who have seizures will develop epilepsy. Over 3 million people in the United States have epilepsy, and over 450,000 are under 17 years old.

When a person has had 2 or more seizures, or practically if a person has one seizure and an abnormal EEG (electroencephalogram) we make the diagnosis of epilepsy.

There are multiple types of epilepsy. The field has evolved dramatically over the last decade with diagnostic and treatment options, from medical to surgical opportunities. Clinical research continues to be active and access to new therapies continues to evolve.

Early access to Epilepsy trained providers is essential for better guidance in the diagnostic and treatment journey. We at PANDA Neurology have access to the new diagnostic and treatment options, on site and through referrals to specialized centers.

Despite treatment, a third of patients remained uncontrolled. Medication options have expanded; side effects vary from product to product with emphasis on the correct diagnostic type of epilepsy being essential for appropriate treatment.

In addition, PANDA continues to thrive on Clinical Research Studies on Epilepsy through our research center (CIRCA) on site. If interested, reach us at (678) 528-0961.
